Gap to make official freestanding debut in Mexico

9/7/2012

San Francisco -- Gap Inc. announced Friday that it will open its first standalone store in Mexico, part of the retailer’s previously announced global expansion strategy.

The new store, to be located at Interlomas Mall outside Mexico City, expands on Gap’s store-in-store concepts in Liverpool Department stores in the region.

“We are excited to expand on our product offerings in Mexico and bring Gap’s unique store experience to customers,” said Stefan Laban, managing director of strategic alliances for Gap Inc. “A stand-alone store is the natural next step for expanding our presence in the country. Consumers responded positively to our initial product offerings in Mexico, so we believe there is tremendous opportunity for us in the market for this store and beyond.”

Gap will leverage an existing wholesale relationship with Distribuidora Liverpool, S.A. DE C.V., in the opening of the new 10,000-sq.-ft. location that will feature Gap, GapKids and BabyGap collections.

Following the successful launch of the first Gap stores in Central and South America, the Mexico City store is a next step toward growing Gap’s footprint in the regions.

Other international store openings for 2012 include Bogota and Medellin this October and Uruguay later this year.
