Delhaize Group sustainability efforts include recycling, greenhouse gas

Brussels, Belgium – Delhaize Group has released its 2014 Sustainability Report. Among the sustainability achievements in 2014 across the organization were: obtaining 35% of Delhaize America private brand food sales from products with high nutritional value up from 33% in 2013.



Delhaize’ Group’s total recycling rate for all companies in Europe and North America increased to 58%, in step with the goal to reach 80% by 2020. Delhaize Group also continued to drive down absolute and relative greenhouse gas emissions toward the goal of 20% reduction by 2020. From 2008 to 2014, it reduced greenhouse gas emissions per sales area by 8%.



Delhaize America’s Food Lion banner partnered with Feeding America to launch Food Lion Feeds, a program to serve 500 million meals to people in need by 2020. Food Lion Feeds provided more than 40 million meals to local hunger relief organizations in its first year.



A new Delhaize Group Associate Diversity Steering Committee was created to align on a group-wide diversity and inclusion approach. Each operating company now has plans and commitments to improve diversity and inclusion by 2020.



For 2015, Delhaize Group will focus on developing better defined strategies for improving the nutritional quality of its private brands, as well as promoting the wellbeing of employees.
