City Furniture expands footprint

11/16/2018
City Furniture is investing $100 million to expand in Florida.

The furniture retailer has opened the first of three Orlando area locations, in Ocoee, and is on track to open new stores in the metro market near the The Mall at Millennia and in Altamonte Springs by the end of 2019. The company is also completing a Central Florida distribution center adjacent to the Ocoee store.

“Orlando’s dynamic business scene has been on our radar screen for years,” said Keith Koenig, CEO, City Furniture, which is based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “Now we’re moving quickly to build market presence and be active in the local community.”

The 85,000-sq.-ft. Ocoee store features the company’s “Generation 3” design for a relaxed customer experience, complete with a café/wine bar, and an in-store shop, City Market Place, dedicated to accessories, lighting, rugs and wall décor.

City Furniture’s upcoming store near the Mall of Millennia will be, at 12,000 sq. ft., the largest to date in its 29-store portfolio. It is scheduled to open in mid-2019. The retailer’s 120,000-sq.-ft. store in Altamonte Springs will open in late 2019. City Furniture will seek Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification for both superstores.

City Furniture operates 17 showrooms from Miami through Orlando, and in Fort Myers, Naples and at The Villages, as well as 12 Ashley HomeStore showrooms as that brand’s Southeast and Southwest Florida licensee.
