Brookshire Grocery Co. has expanded its footprint in Louisiana.
The Tyler, Texas-based supermarket company has entered into an agreement with Southeastern Grocers under which Brookshire will acquire eight Winn-Dixie stores from Southeastern in South Louisiana. The stores will become part of Brookshire’s GC’s Super 1 Foods banner.
The acquisition comes amid rumors that Southeastern, whose banners include Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo, Harveys and Fresco y Mas, is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
“We’re excited about this agreement and the opportunity it provides us to further grow and expand in this region,” said Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO, Brookshire, which operates 176 stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. “We’re a family business celebrating our 90th anniversary this year, and we look forward to many more years here.”
After the closing process is completed, the acquired Winn-Dixie stores will undergo a brief transition period with the goal of re-opening within days under the Super 1 Foods banner. BGC worked with The Food Partners, a grocery industry investment banking firm, as a strategic and financial advisor for this acquisition.
