American Apparel is re-entering physical retail, albeit on a test basis.
The apparel brand will open a flagship in its Los Angeles hometown later this year, reported Bloomberg. It will be the first store the company has opened since it closed all its locations last year following a bankruptcy process.
American Apparel filed for bankruptcy at the end of 2016. In June 2017, Canadian apparel manufacturer Gildan Activewear Inc. bought the intellectual property and some other assets of the bankrupt brand — but not its stores — in an auction. Gildan relaunched American Apparel’s U.S. website in August 2017.
The new American Apparel store will complement e-commerce operations and serve as a “test model store,” Gildan told
