Amazon launching store partnership with consumer electronics giant

4/18/2018
The importance of brick-and-mortar is reflected in a new collaboration between rivals Amazon and Best Buy.

Starting this summer, Best Buy will sell the newest generation of Amazon’s Fire TV Edition smart televisions in stores across the United States and Canada and online. Also, for the first time, Best Buy will be a third-party seller on Amazon.

Best Buy will feature more than 10 4K and HD Fire TV Edition models from Insignia (the chain’s house brand) and Toshiba. New models will be released in 2018, according to Amazon. Best Buy will be the exclusive retailer selling the new smart TVs.

“Amazon and Best Buy have a long history of working together, and today we take our partnership to a new level,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO.

The new TVs will have Amazon Fire TV built in, allowing users to search for and watch broadcast TV, or choose from a catalog of streaming TV episodes and movies from Netflix, Prime Video, HBO, PlayStation Vue, Hulu, and other streaming sites.

This is not the first Amazon smart device Best Buy feature. Last year, the electronics retailer added Amazon Alexa voice-activated devices within its smart home department offerings across about 700 Best Buy stores nationwide. These departments also feature Google Home products.
