Sprouts plans expansion in Philly

Natural and organic grocer Sprouts Farmers Market is expanding its presence in a major East Coast city.

The Phoenix-based grocery has confirmed plans to open six more stores in the Philadelphia area to the Philadelphia Business Journal, expanding its store count to 11 in a two year span. Sprouts will open three new stores in Philadelphia, another in Montgomery County and two more at undisclosed locations.

According to PhillyVoice, two of the new stores – one at Quartermaster Plaza on Oregon Avenue in South Philly and another at the Roosevelt Mall in the Northeast – are expected to open by the middle of next year. A third new Philly Sprouts location is currently being built on Columbus Boulevard in Northern Liberties and is expected to open sometime in 2025. 

Outside of Philadelphia, the grocer is planning to open a store at Ridge Pike and Township Line Road in Limerick, but has not announced a projected timeline for opening. PhillyVoice said company declined to comment further on the locations of its two other planned stores.

In early September, Sprouts reached a milestone by opening its 400th store. As part of its five-year plan, the grocer committed to a robust growth strategy, aiming to expand 10% year-over-year.

Sprouts currently operates stores in 23 states across the U.S.: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
