Simon COO Mike Nevins is returning to Syracuse to head the leasing operations at Spinoso Real Estate Group.
Mike Nevins, who served as COO and director of leasing at Simon Property Group in Indianapolis for the past three years, has returned to the upstate New York town where he began his retail real estate career.
Nevins, who began leasing retail space for Pyramid Management Group in Syracuse in the early 90s, is back in the lakeside town as an executive VP at Spinoso Real Estate Group, where he will take over managing and evolving its leasing organization.
“Having worked together at the beginning of our careers, it feels like a natural fit and perfect timing to re-join forces,” said Carmen D. Spinoso, Chairman and CEO of SREG, “I’ve known Mike for 30 years and have the highest respect for his knowledge, ability, relationships, and passion.”
Nevins played important leasing roles at some of the highest-profile retail projects in the United States, among them Tysons Corner Center, Scottsdale Fashion Square, Queens Center, and Santa Monica Place. Nevins spent 15 years with and Wilmorite, which Macerich acquired in 2005. At Macerich, he served as senior VP of leasing for the West Region that comprised 40 properties in over 40 million square feet in the states of Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington.
“Over time, I watched the impressive growth of Carmen’s company and saw the breadth and depth of his involvement in the industry. I did not realize they had more than 30 assets under management and leasing,” Nevins said. “The foundation that has been laid by someone that I respect is not only world-class but has been intentionally designed for the time that we are in.”
Nevins sat for 9 years on the board of directors of Teavana prior to its acquisition by Starbucks, which ended up closing the tea shop chain.
