Williams-Sonoma going south of the border

Williams-Sonoma has entered into an agreement with Mexico’s leading department store retailer to open stores in that country.



Williams-Sonoma said it will open 13 stores across its various brands — Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, PBteen and West Elm — In Mexico City, by the end of 2015. The stores are opening through a franchise partnership with Mexican department store retailer Liverpool.



“This is an exciting milestone in our global expansion,” stated Laura Alber, president and CEO, Williams-Sonoma The addition of stores in Mexico provides Williams-Sonoma with a full presence in North America.”



Liverpool has a significant presence in Mexico, with 105 department stores, including Fabricas de Francia, additional to 23 shopping centers in 15 states of the Mexican Republic.

WSI brands complement Liverpool’s vision and values as we both seek to surpass shopper expectations with quality, selection, distinctive experiences and unique environments,” said Liverpool’s general director, Graciano Guichard.



The U.S. retailer will make its Mexican debut on Oct. 22, with Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, PBteen and West Elm stores opening at Galerías Polanco. Additional openings at select centers will follow.
