Wal-Mart to build smaller stores in cities nationwide

Bentonville, Ark. Wal-Mart aims to build smaller stores in urban areas as its next growth driver, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The move is a shift from its strategy of building super-sized stores in suburban and rural towns.

Wal-Mart CEO Mike Duke said the retail giant's future growth will come from "innovative new formats."
