Va. hearing delayed on Walmart battlefield dispute

10/21/2010

Orange, Va. Attorneys said Thursday that a hearing on a planned Walmart store near an endangered Civil War battlefield in Northern Virginia has been delayed.

The Orange County Circuit Court hearing, slated for Thursday afternoon, was continued and a new hearing date has not been set. The hearing was to address the county's bid to block town leaders from testifying on their decision to grant a special use permit to Wal-Mart Stores.

The permit is needed to build the store near the Wilderness Battlefield in Locust Grove, where opposition says the store threatens the Wilderness Battlefield.

The matter is headed to trial in January.
