Shopko to introduce new concept

6/7/2010

Green Bay, Wis. Shopko is introducing a new concept called Shopko Hometown that will combine features from its full-size stores and smaller Shopko Express stores.

Two Shopko Hometown stores are scheduled to open later this summer in Oconto and Kewaunee, Wis., with grand openings planned for September.

The format is designed to serve smaller markets, but will include the brand selection of the full-size stores, offering convenience foods, consumables, home products, clothing and other merchandise, as well as pharmacies and possibly optical centers.

“As Shopko grows and evolves, we are continuously looking for innovative ways to serve our existing customers and to reach new customers,” Shopko president and CEO Paul Jones said. “By leveraging the strengths of both our full-size Shopko stores and our Shopko Express model, we are able to introduce this new store concept to smaller markets where we have not previously had a presence and where there is a strong need for our products and services.”
