Sears Tower renamed Willis Tower
New York City Chicago’s Sears Tower, the tallest building in the United States, on Thursday was formally renamed Willis Tower, after the British insurance group.
Willis secured the naming rights to the tower as part of an agreement to rent 140,000 sq. ft. in the 110-story building, which was the world’s tallest when it opened in 1973. Sears Roebuck moved out of the tower to a new headquarters in Chicago’s suburbs in 1992.
