Safeway plans new shopping center in Washington

Pleasanton, Calif. Safeway is gearing up to build a 150,000-sq.-ft. shopping center anchored by one of its supermarkets in the Canyon Park area of Bothell, Wash.

The company said its Property Development Centers subsidiary will build the new center and it will include seven retail buildings in addition to the Safeway store.

Construction is slated to start this summer with an opening in 2011.

The Safeway store at Canyon Park will be over 50,000 sq. ft. and will feature full-service seafood, meat and deli departments, as well as a full-service bakery, and a Starbucks. The store will also have expanded organic and conventional produce departments, expanded beer and wine selection and a full-service pharmacy.
