Report: Sears closing more stores

10/23/2014

New York --Investor website Seeking Alpha reported on Thursday that Sears Holdings Corp. is closing more than 100 stores and laying off at least 5,457 employees. The report, which Sears said was inaccurate, said the shutterings include 30 Sears stores, 31 Sears Auto Centers and 46 Kmart stores.

In August, Sears said it planned to close a total of 130 underperforming stores during the full fiscal year. It did not rule out closing additional locations.

Sears spokesman Chris Brathwaite declined to comment on the number of planned closures in a Reuters report. He said the company would provide an update when it reports quarterly earnings in November.
