Report: New Price Chopper 27% more energy efficient

New York City Price Chopper has opened a 56,000-sq-ft. store in Warwick, N.Y., that is expected to reduce energy costs by 27%, or by about $150,000 annually, according to Timesunion.com. The store features high-efficiency lighting and controls, HVAC units, daylighting controls, skylights and other eco-friendly equipment.

Price Chopper expects to reduce its energy consumption by more than 800,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, and to realize a payback in about 12 to 18 months. The store is seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Buildings Council.

Over the past few years, NYSERDA has partnered with Price Chopper on several energy conservation, renewable energy, and combined heat and power projects, which total more than $1.5 million. This includes the Golub headquarters building in Schenectady, N.Y.
