Regency redevelops Millhopper Shopping Center

1/29/2010

Gainesville, Fla. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers said Friday it will begin the redevelopment of Millhopper Shopping Center with the expansion of grocery anchor Publix, additional retail space and an upgraded center facade and amenities.

“Publix will add 24% more space by demolishing its existing 37,244 sq.-ft. store and expanding to a new 46,013 sq.-ft. store,” said Mike Kinsella, senior VP, Regency Centers.

Demolition of the Publix and adjacent space is slated for February, and Publix will reopen in the fall.

In addition to the Publix expansion, Regency will renovate the center with a new exterior facade, upgraded architectural components plus new signage, lighting and parking lot improvements.

Regency will add a new 2,700-sq.-ft. building for restaurants, retail and service businesses. The existing stores, along with a CVS/pharmacy and a U.S. Post Office, will remain open for business during the renovations.
