Regency Centers to install electric vehicle charging stations in six states

3/22/2012

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Shopping center owner Regency Centers said Thursday that it will install electric vehicle charging stations at 19 of its grocery-anchored and community shopping centers in Arizona, California, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

Regency is partnering with Ecotality to install Blink Level 2 EV charging stations at the 19 centers; the rollout is part of The EV Project, the largest national deployment of commercial and residential charging stations in major U.S. cities and metropolitan areas.

The goal of The EV Project is to collect data on electric vehicle use, evaluate the effectiveness of EV charging infrastructure and evaluate revenue systems for commercial and public charging stations.

According to Mark Peternell, Regency’s VP sustainability: “Regency is utilizing The EV Project to assess the viability and consumer demand for providing EV chargers at additional shopping centers. Going forward, Regency will install additional chargers in its portfolio based upon consumer demand, if the pilot program results demonstrate that it makes sound financial sense.”
