RadioShack rumored to be moving corporate HQ

Dallas RadioShack may be moving its corporate headquarters, according to a report in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

The report suggested the electronics retailer was quietly shopping for new space and considering an office relocation both inside and outside of Fort Worth, Texas.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal reported that there is “buzz among Tampa area brokers and developers” about RadioShack looking quietly for a home in the area.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal said a mystery company was conducting a probe into possibly moving into the area under a project name “Project Prince.” The business behind the project is looking for a Class A office building in the 300,000 sq. ft. to 350,000 sq. ft. range.

Another indicator that RadioShack is the possible entity behind the project is the fact that developers have said they heard RadioShack is planning to re-brand itself as part of its relocation plan.

Economic development officials, who are required to maintain confidentiality, have declined to discuss the project.

Several developers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they heard that RadioShack planned to re-brand itself as part of a relocation.

The company began referring to itself as “The Shack” earlier this year.

A spokesperson for RadioShack said Thursday in a statement, “You may recall our current lease agreement with (Tarrant County College) allows RadioShack to remain in its current office space until 2011, with an option to extend through June 2013. Terms of the agreement have not been changed.” The spokesperson added, “Nothing new to discuss concerning long-term decisions.”

Other cities under consideration reportedly include Charlotte, N.C., Nashville, Tenn., and Albuquerque, N.M., according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
