Department store retailers are pulling back in the United States, but they are doing just the opposite north of the border.
The department store industry is expanding in Canada, the
New York Times reported, with several factors driving the growth, including less competition and a stable market.
“Canada is a good place, everybody wants to do business here,” said Peter Simons, president and chief executive of La Maison Simons, which is owned by his family. “I’m proud that people see it as a stable and interesting place to be.”
