New York’s first upscale-brand outlet center opening this fall on Staten Island will include an old standby of American shoppers.
Old Navy has signed a lease for a 13,382-sq.-ft. store at Empire Outlets -- New York City’s first outlet center -- situated at the St. George Ferry terminal. The center will house more than 100 retail brands, among them H&M, Banana Republic, Nordstrom Rack, and Gap Factory.
“We’re excited to grow Old Navy’s presence in the New York City area,” said Old Navy spokesperson Julie Van Vliet. “We look forward to being a part of this unique shopping experience and welcoming families from all over the city and the world.”
Some four million people come through the Staten Island Ferry terminal annually.
The 340,000-sq.-ft. retail complex, which will comprise a 40,000-sq.-ft. food and beverage deck, is a project of BFC Partners, a Staten Island-based developer that has played a role in the redevelopment of Williamsburg in Brooklyn and the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
BFC reports that Empire Outlets is more than 90% leased and it is in discussions with several prominent tenants that would provide the final pieces of the puzzle at the lifestyle center.
