Nordstrom to debut second full-line store in Connecticut

3/9/2015

Seattle -- Nordstrom will open a full-line store in the new regional shopping center being developed by General Growth Properties in Norwalk, Connecticut.

The three-level, 150,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2018 and will be the company's second full-line store in the state. The company opened its first Nordstrom in Connecticut in 1997 near Hartford at Westfarms Mall in Farmington.

"We're glad we have an opportunity to serve our existing Fairfield County customers closer to home as well as customers new to Nordstrom in a compelling, new retail destination," said Jamie Nordstrom, president of stores for Nordstrom, Inc.

Located just off I-95 at the intersection of West Avenue and North Water Street in the Reed Putnam Urban Renewal area, Nordstrom will be an anchor tenant of GGP's new, 700,000+-sq.-ft. enclosed regional retail center. "Our goal is to provide a unique shopping destination that serves as a gathering place for great retail, dining and entertainment,” said Sandeep Mathrani, CEO, GGP. “Securing Nordstrom as an anchor shows GGP's strategy to bring high-quality stores to this exciting new development that will complement existing merchants in South Norwalk and attract new customers."

Last June, GGP presented plans for 700,000 sq. ft. of large retail development. In November, the plan was modified to a proposed 780,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurant space, 180,000 sq. ft. of indoor public space, 5,000 sq. ft. of educational space, a 150-room hotel, and a small percentage of square footage set aside for public and cultural uses. The modifications and expansion to the $285 million, now 1.1 million-sq.-ft. development were as a result of community input.

Anticipated opening is mid-2018.
