Retail centers have a great opportunity to help bring great new restaurants to America, because so few of the best restaurants are here now, according to The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2019 list, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. According to the list, the U.S. claimed six spots:
• Cosme (No.23), located in New York York’s Flatiron District, is helmed by The World’s Best Female Chef 2019, Daniela Soto-Innes, and serves up fresh Mexican cuisine.
• Blue Hill at Stone Barns (No. 28) is a menu-less establishment offering a fresh, seasonal farm-to-table feast cultivated from the Hudson Valley, 30-miles north of New York City.
• Chef Dominique Crenn offers a modern French multi-course experience at Atelier Crenn (No. 35) in San Francisco.
• Le Bernardin (No. 36) is an “elite” French restaurant run by Chef Eric Ripert is located in Midtown Manhattan.
• Alinea (No. 37) was founded in Chicago by Chef Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas and features a single, seasonally driven tasting menu of between 18 and 22 courses.
• Benu (No. 47) is located in San Francisco and offers a tasting menu that mixes new Asian-American with French influences.
Over the last 17 years, the U.S. made the top spot in the World's 50 Best Restaurants list only three times. The French Laundry located in Yountville, Calif., was crowned The World’s Best Restaurant in 2003 and 2004. New York City’s Eleven Madison Park landed the No. 1 spot in 2017.
As food-and-beverage continues its upward climb into shopping centers across the U.S., maybe more upscale dining offerings will pop up where people shop. After all, America’s palate is evolving and we are hungry!
