Lidl reveals more U.S. store openings; to build fourth DC

German discount grocer is expanding its presence and investment in the U.S. — on two fronts.

On the heels of its first 10 stores opening in the U.S., Lidl is expanding with more locations. On July 13, the company will open two stores in Virginia (in Chesapeake and Culpeper) and two in North Carolina (Havelock and Wake Forest).

The new openings will give Lidl 14 doors in the United States. The company plans to expand that number to 100 within the year.

“Since opening our doors two weeks ago, we have begun the journey of serving our customers with top quality products at the best possible prices every single day,” said Brendan Proctor, president and CEO of Lidl US. “We are excited to announce today that we will be bringing the Lidl experience to even more communities in Virginia and North Carolina in a few short weeks.”

In addition, Lidl announced plans to build its fourth U.S. regional headquarters and distribution center, a $100 million facility in Cartersville, Georgia. The company established its first U.S. headquarters in 2015, in Arlington County, Virginia. Since then, it has announced regional headquarters and distribution centers in Spotsylvania County, Virginia; Alamance County, North Carolina, Cecil County, Maryland and Bartow County, Georgia.

“We are excited to announce new growth and investment in our U.S. expansion” said Brendan Proctor, president and CEO of Lidl US. “Our Cartersville facility will help us efficiently deliver top quality goods to our future customers throughout the area."

“We look forward to being part of this community and thank Governor Nathan Deal, as well as local leaders, for their support throughout this process,” said Proctor.

Lidl operates more than 10,000 stores in 28 countries.
