Kohl’s opens nine stores on Wednesday, 30 remodels on tap
Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s reported Wednesday the simultaneous grand openings of nine new stores in seven states, bringing the retailer’s total store count to 1,155.
Stores open Wednesday in Decatur, Ala., Danville, Ill., Ames, Iowa, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Minot, N.D., Sherwood, Ore., Hermitage, Pa., Spring Township, Pa. and Denton, Texas.
“As Kohl’s continues to grow, investing in our stores remains a priority,” said Kevin Mansell, president and CEO.
Mansell added that the chain will also remodel 30 locations in 2013.
The nine new stores all feature updated checkout stations, newly designed shopping carts and strollers, an expanded customer service area located at the front of the store, Kohl’s Kiosks, electronic signs, Wi-Fi and upgraded fitting rooms. Eight of the 9 were built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, following a Kohl’s prototype design that was certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council. The eight stores will pursue LEED certification in the coming months, according to Kohl’s.
