Jordan’s Furniture has opened a massive store in New Haven, Connecticut, and this time the retailer is putting customers on the ropes — literally.
Jordan’s, known for its larger-than-life stores that combine retail with entertainment, pulled out all the stops for the 192,500-sq.-ft. location. Some 20,000 sq. ft. of the space is devoted to entertainment attractions that include an elaborate indoor rope course, a water show complete with light and sound effects, a pizzeria and ice cream counter.
The “IT Adventure Indoor Ropes Course,” billed as the world's largest indoor adventure ropes course, features two 60-foot-high ropes courses with four levels, zigzag swinging beams, bridges, plank-walking, a catwalk and a 48-foot-high free fall jump. There are four 200-foot-long, 48-foot-high zip lines that extend above the water show. There is also a smaller rope course designed for small children.
According to the Hartford Courant, customers pay $10 to $30 to experience the ropes attraction, depending on the activities they choose.
“Our team has been working so hard and they have created a destination where the shopping experience is like nothing else anywhere,” said Eliot Tatelman, president and CEO, Jordan’s Furniture. Jordan’s is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, whose billionaire owner Warren Buffett made an appearance at the store’s private pre-opening gala.
This is Jordan’s sixth location. The retailer also operates three stores in Massachusetts, one in Rhode Island and one in New Hampshire. Each location features its own entertainment component, from an IMAX theater to a laser water show.
