Grocery anchor planned for mixed-use project near Fort Totten

11/3/2010

Chevy Chase, Md. JBG Rosenfeld Retail said it has begun leasing efforts for Fort Totten Square, a joint venture of Los Angeles-based Lowe Enterprises and The JBG Cos., based in Chevy Chase, Md.

Fort Totten Square, located near the Fort Totten Metro station, in Washington, D.C., is planned to offer 130,000 sq. ft. of street-level, grocery-anchored retail topped by residential units.

Development is expected to commence during the second half of 2011, with delivery anticipated in 2013.

“The Fort Totten, Manor Park, and Riggs Park neighborhoods have long been underserved from a retail standpoint,” said JBGR principal Grant Ehat. “With this new, mixed-use development, it is our intention to bring much-needed retail options and services to the area residents, while creating a focal point for a major intersection that currently boasts little more than a fast-food restaurant and a package store.”

Ehat added that retail leasing efforts are underway.

The complete development site is a combination of land previously owned by Lowe Enterprises, as well as a parcel owned by the District of Columbia and the DC Department of Transportation. Under the terms of the joint venture agreement, Lowe and JBG will be co-developers of the development, with JBGR managing the retail leasing efforts.
