Goldenberg Group assists with stormwater basin clean-up efforts
Blue Bell, Pa. The Goldenberg Group said Monday it is working with the Montgomery County (Pa.) Conservation District and the Department of Environmental Protection to protect Plymouth Creek.
Adjacent to the Metroplex Shopping Center -- an open-air shopping center developed and owned by The Goldenberg Group -- an eight-acre stormwater basin receives runoff from six square miles of parking lot and road before it passes into Plymouth Creek. Goldenberg Group teamed with Villanova and Temple University students to stabilize two sediment forebays, remove invasive vines from trees, pick up trash and perform general site maintenance, collectively putting in 323 hours of volunteer work.
The cleanup was part of a three-year stormwater basin retrofit project to control flooding and improve water quality flowing into Plymouth Creek, which feeds into the Schuylkill River. The project was made possible by Growing Greener grant funding from the Department of Environmental Protection, and through the efforts of the project partners. Already, they have successfully converted the basin from turf to meadow, providing a buffer along Plymouth Creek.
The project will be completed in the fall.
