Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M) is going green for its first store in Lower Manhattan.
The retailer will open a 25,000-sq.-ft. store at Westfield World Trade Center, set to open in spring 2016. It will be H&M’s 17th location in New York City, and its first U.S. store to apply for LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification.
The interior of the new store will operate on renewable power sources and will use less electricity than a conventional office building. H&M will be incorporating recycled content materials throughout the space, as well as using LED lighting and Energy Star-certified equipment.
H&M will be the largest fashion retailer to open in Westfield World Trade Center.
In addition to announcing the new location at Westfield World Trade Center, H&M said it will close 2015 by opening its 500th store in North America, at Dolphin Mall in Miami, on Dec. 10.
The H&M Group has more than 3,800 stores in 61 markets around the globe.
