The retail comeback of the New York City borough of Staten Island continues.
BFC Partners, which is developing Staten Island’s 340,000-sq.-ft. Empire Oulets center, announced it will develop an artisanal food market showcasing the best local and international purveyors for the center.
BFC is partnering with the creative team behind Gansevoort Market on the project.
Called The Marketplace at Empire Outlets, the innovative food destination is set to open in late 2017 in Staten Island. The industrial-inspired, 12,000-sq.-ft. space will tie together the history of the New York Harbor with modern communal spaces to eat and gather. It will feature an additional 3,000 sq. ft. of outdoor dining space.
Michael Brais and Louis Puopolo with Douglas Elliman Commercial have been selected by BFC to serve as the exclusive leasing agents for the food and beverage component at Empire Outlets.
In total, Empire Outlets will include 340,000 sq. ft. of prime retail space with approximately 100 designer outlet retailers; a 190-room hotel; 40,000 sq. ft. of food & beverage space; and a 1,250-space structured parking garage. The project – which is currently more than 50% leased – will be adjacent to the New York Wheel, which will be one of the tallest observation wheels in the Western hemisphere.
