Edens & Avant to redevelop Shops at West Falls Church

6/15/2010

West Falls Church, Va. Columbia, S.C.-based Edens & Avant said Tuesday it will redevelop The Shops at West Falls Church, in West Falls Church, Va., as part of what the developer calls its continuing mission to create more community-focused retail destinations in the Washington metropolitan area.

"Along with the physical renovations, a major part of our redevelopment plan was to bring in elements reflective of the community, which makes this center an enjoyable gathering place for the local neighborhood," said Steve Boyle, Edens & Avant Managing Director. "When the redevelopment is complete, local residents will benefit from a more engaging shopping experience that will include outdoor dining areas, enhanced landscaping, better parking design, and a pedestrian-friendly environment."

With redevelopment currently underway, plans for the center will include a mix of national and local retailers to serve the diverse needs of the surrounding community. Incoming tenants include the Original Pancake House, Bruegger's Bagels and Verizon Wireless, and anchor Safeway will undergo a major interior and exterior remodeling.

"The remodel of the Safeway in West Falls is part of our larger strategy to strengthen existing stores throughout the Washington area," said Timothy Baker, eastern division VP real estate for Safeway. "This particular location exemplifies one of our lifestyle prototypes currently under development throughout our mid-Atlantic portfolio."
