1/4/2012

Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General plans to open 625 stores and add more than 6,000 new jobs in 2012. The locations will be spread among Dollar General’s 38-state operating area, and include the new markets of California, where it will open 50 stores and a distribution center, and Massachusetts. The discounter will also open a distribution center in the Golden State this year.

“California presents an extraordinary opportunity for Dollar General to fulfill its mission of serving others by delivering convenience and value,” said Rick Dreiling, chairman and CEO. “Our plans bring new opportunities for Californians, including hundreds of new jobs.”

In addition to the 625 new stores, the company plans to remodel or relocate 550 stores in 2012.

The projected 6,000 jobs follow on the heels of three years of positive job growth for the company. Including 2012, the company will have created more than 21,000 new jobs since 2009.
