Catalog/online retailer seeks to grow brick-and-mortar presence

1/13/2016

Sundance is gearing up for major retail expansion.

The lifestyle apparel, art and home furnishings brand, founded by Robert Redford in 1969, has long operated a successful catalog and e-commerce site, along with a handful of physical stores. But in remarks at the recent ICR investor conference, CEO Matey Erdos said the company is planning to open up to 150 locations in the coming years.

“We are meeting with mall developers and setting the foundation for a larger retail platform,” said Erdos, the New York Post reported.

Sundance (Redford is a part owner) opened two stores in 2016: one at NorthPark Center in Dallas, and the other at Galleria Edina, in Edina, Minnesota, giving it a total of five stores. Three are currently in the pipeline, the report said.

The Edina and Dallas locations feature the company’s new store prototype, which features an artisan-inspired design, by JGA, Southfield, Michigan, and use reclaimed barn wood and artisan materials to promote the brand's heritage and showcase the artistry, design and materiality of the products on display.
