AMC Randhurst-12 to be first LEED-certified movie theater
Columbus, Ohio-based Casto announced Tuesday that ground has been broken on the new state-of-the-art AMC Randhurst-12 cinema.
The theater, part of the redevelopment of Casto’s Randhurst Mall in Mt. Prospect, Ill., will be the company’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified theater incorporating several elements of environmentally sustainable design ranging from the use of locally sourced materials for construction; energy conservation through the use of efficient mechanical systems with no harmful discharge of CFCs into the environment; and water conservation through the use of low-flow fixtures among several other sustainable initiatives.
The groundbreaking of the theater follows the Randhurst Village openings of Jersey Mike’s, Five Guys, Chipotle Mexican Grill and T Mobile and the announcements of the lease signings of The Sports Authority, Pei Wei Asian Diner, PNC Bank, PetSmart and The Hampton Inn.
“There is a resurgence in the Chicago real estate market and the successful development of Randhurst Village is a perfect example,” according to Brett Hutchens, president, Casto Southeast Realty Services LLC. “For many years Randhurst was a shopping and entertainment destination for the northwest suburbs and the redevelopment will return it to that status.”
The approximately 2,000-seat theater will anchor the Main Street section of Randhurst Village and will replace the existing 16-plex at Randhurst.
Scheduled to open in 2011, Randhurst Village will feature over 1 million sq. ft. of retail and office space.
