Walmart adds a mega-facility to its distribution network
A discount giant is opening a new distribution center in “the heart of Dixie.”
On Tuesday, Walmart opened a 2.6 million sq.-ft. distribution center in Mobile, Alabama. The $135 million building currently employs more than 575 full-time associates. Once the facility is fully operational, it will create more than 750 jobs.
The new storage and cross-dock facility will supply several regional distribution centers that support approximately 700 Walmart stores in Alabama, Mississippi, and beyond. In addition to complementing more than 145 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in Alabama, it is the sixth import distribution center in the United States, according to Walmart.
“We are excited about how this facility will help us better serve our customers across the South and beyond, while creating a positive economic impact locally through job creation and future development,” said Jeff Breazeale, Walmart VP, direct import logistics.
