Wal-Mart Donates $1 Million for Disaster Relief in China
Bentonville, Ark. Wal-Mart Stores on Tuesday announced a $1-million donation to the Red Cross Society of China to support disaster relief in areas that have been impacted by the worst snowstorms in China in 50 years.
Since late January, frigid temperatures, snow and freezing rain have wreaked havoc in most provinces in southern China, bringing rail, road and air transport to a standstill. In addition, electricity, heat and water supplies have been disrupted, causing significant hardship for millions of people.
Working with local communities and authorities, Wal-Mart stores in the affected areas are supplying food and drinking water to stranded passengers and families in need.
