Survey: Mobile employees on the rise


Parsippany, N.J. A survey released late Tuesday by workforce management solution-provider CyberShift found that there is an increasing trend of employees assigned to work in multiple states.

The 2010 CyberShift Trendline Survey, which polled more than 1,200 American Payroll Association (APA) members on topics ranging from time and attendance challenges to the use of contingent workers, found that 39.1% of respondents’ companies have employees working in multiple states. 

“The trend toward worker mobility promises to continue,” said Morne P. Swart, CyberShift’s VP product management. “To truly empower their mobile work forces, companies have to go beyond simply delivering Internet and email access on the road.”

According to Swart, mobile workers need to be able to access expense reporting and time and attendance functions. “Providing these essential applications to mobile workers can ensure greater time, attendance, scheduling and business expense accuracy, enabling optimized business performance and improved cost controls.”

Additional results from the Trendline survey showed that payroll professionals find it challenging to capture accurate and timely data for absence, leave, vacation and payroll adjustments. Sophisticated automated solutions that integrate time and labor management, employee scheduling and expense management functionality can dramatically increase employee productivity and satisfaction, ultimately improving corporate performance.

More than 16% of the payroll professionals surveyed represented the manufacturing sector, with the health care (14.3%); not-for-profit (7.1%); local government (6.1%); and retail (4.9%) sectors rounding out the top five responding industries.
