Sports Authority announces new chief merchant

Englewood, Colo. Sports Authority announced the appointment of retail industry expert Gwen Manto to oversee all merchandising, planning, allocation, replenishment, supply chain and product development functions.

Manto, previously served as executive VP and chief merchandising officer for Dick’s Sporting Goods. Manto’s appointment is effective June 1, the company reported.

Prior to Manto’s employment with Dick’s Sporting Goods, she served as executive VP softlines for Sears, Roebuck & Co., where she led the apparel and soft home categories. Manto has also served as vice chairman and chief merchandising officer for Stein Mart and as president and CEO of Kid's Foot Locker. Earlier in her career, Manto held the senior-level merchant roles at both Kids “R” Us and Babies “R” Us.
