Smith’s reaches tentative deal with union
Albuquerque Smith’s Food & Drug has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 1564 in Albuquerque, according to the New Mexico Business Weekly.
The proposed agreement covers more than 2,000 Smith’s employees in the 26 stores in New Mexico.
The UFCW is presenting the agreement to its members for ratification during meetings that started June 8.
Details of the proposed agreement were not released.
Jim Hallsey, president of Smith’s Food & Drug, said the deal would provide higher wages and affordable health care for employees and their families.
