Saks confirms associates arrested for credit card fraud

9/12/2014

New York -- Saks on Friday confirmed that five associates at its Fifth Avenue flagship were arrested in connection with credit card fraud. The investigation involved six individuals using stolen credit card information and impacted 22 Saks customers.

The confirmation comes on the heels of media reports that six employees were arrested on Friday after authorities found they had been swiping data from the store's computers. They allegedly used the data to purchase shoes, bags and other merchandise. The suspects reportedly have all been charged with grand larceny and identify theft.

“All customers have been notified and their accounts have been restored,” Saks said in a statement. “The incident involved several retailers, and there was no compromise to the security of Saks Fifth Avenue's networks or systems.”

Saks said is fully cooperating with authorities.
