Report: Retailers form anti-theft alliance with NYPD

9/25/2014

New York – More than 100 retailers, including Macy’s and J.C. Penney, have reportedly joined forces with the New York Police Department to create the Metropolitan Organized Retail Crime Alliance. According to the New York Daily News, the alliance will share information on criminals and scams targeting retailers and their customers.

Target, Home Depot and Rite Aid are also part of the alliance, with Apple reportedly preparing to join in the near future. The group will also share information with the FBI and 50 other law enforcement agencies. It held its first meeting earlier in September, with Rite Aid sharing information about a scam targeting users of Green Dot MoneyPak cards. The group is modeled after a similar retailer-police partnership in Los Angeles.
