Amazon is making some new hires across its French division.
The online giant will create 2,000 permanent jobs this year. This is in addition to 1,500 jobs that it added in France last year, according to
Bloomberg. The workers will fill positions across its distribution centers and sorting centers. Further jobs will be created in delivery services. These additions will increase the retailer’s French workforce by more than a third, bringing its total number of employees to more than 7,500 by the end of 2018, the report said.
In
the report, Frederic Duval, head of Amazon France, said “We have more customers, so more business, and as we have more business, we hire more. We think this level of activity is sustainable, thus we’re hiring people with permanent contracts.”
Amazon’s new labor push is also influenced by France’s strengthening French economy, the report said.
The news comes on the heels of
Amazon’s decision earlier this week to slash “hundreds” of positions across its corporate office in the United States.
