Penney Honored for Workplace Diversity
Dallas, J. C. Penney Co. was honored at this year’s Corporate Equality Index Awards for the company’s perfect score on the 2007 Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index. The index is the only nationally recognized measure of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender workplace equality. As part of this recognition, J.C. Penney will be included on HRC’s "Best Places to Work" list as well as the organization’s annual "Buying for Equality" guide.
“Inclusion and diversity are integral to our goal of making J.C. Penney the preferred choice for a retail career,” said Michael Theilmann, executive VP and chief human resources officer for J.C. Penney.
HRC honored the chain for its implementation of comprehensive workplace policies and associate benefits, such as domestic partner benefits, comprehensive diversity training sessions and an associate affinity group.
