New York -- In a long-awaited decision, the National Labor Relations Board has made it easier for contract workers and other temporary employees to more easily unionize.
Business groups and associations, including the National Retail Federation, criticized the decision.
The ruling could upend the traditional arms-length relationship that has prevailed between companies like McDonald’s and its local fast-food franchises, the Washington Post reported. And it comes amid growing concerns regarding such Internet-fueled business as Uber whose models emphasize independent contractors.
