Nordstrom to close 122,000-sq.-ft. store in Utah
Seattle -- Nordstrom said Friday it will shutter its underperforming University Mall store in Orem, Utah. The 122,000-sq.-ft. store is slated to close on Feb. 24.
The store, which opened March 29, 2002, didn’t perform to company standards, according to Nordstrom.
"After 10 years of being part of the Orem community, this was a tough decision to make," said Blake Nordstrom, president. "Despite our team's best effort, this store hasn't ever performed to the level we need it to and it just doesn't make good business sense to continue operating here."
The company said it will continue to operate at three nearby locations: a full-line store at Fashion Place Mall in Murray, Utah; the Sugar House Rack in Salt Lake City; and the Commons at South Towne Rack in Sandy, Utah.
In addition, the company will be opening a new Nordstrom store at City Creek Center in Salt Lake City on March 22.
Nordstrom said it will work to make positions available to all impacted employees.
