Kroger is preparing to deliver an omnichannel customer experience in its stores.
The grocery giant is partnering with digital store platform provider OneView Commerce to develop a next-generation POS solution. Utilizing OneView’s cloud-based technology, Kroger will integrate POS, promotion and inventory applications into a single user interface. As a result, Kroger will be able to deploy sales and service functions, such as checkout, targeted discounts and inventory checks, on any digital or in-store device.
"Kroger is a leader in bringing exciting and innovative retail technology to market,” said Linda Palanza, CEO at OneView. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with them as we continue to evolve and improve the OneView platform. Retail is going through the most disruptive technology cycle it has ever experienced, and this strategic partnership will ensure that our solutions are retail-relevant and delivering innovation for multiple verticals and every size and type of retailer globally."
Kroger is aggressively pursuing a strategy to create a leading-edge connected store environment. Kroger is
currently testing a smart technology system, powered by Microsoft Azure and connected by Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, in two pilot stores. The system uses a proprietary digital shelving solution called EDGE (Enhanced Display for Grocery Environment) which replaces traditional paper shelf tags with digital displays of prices, promotions, and other product information. EDGE will directly connect to the Kroger Scan, Bag & Go mobile app while customers shop.
As a result, customers can have a guided store experience where items on their mobile shopping list are automatically identified by images on digital shelf displays as they approach. In addition, the pilot includes a pick-to-light fulfillment solution that digitally guides store associates finding items to fill curbside delivery orders and automatically notifies them of out-of-stocks.
