Home Depot CEO Menear named chairman

1/16/2015

Atlanta – The Home Depot Inc. has named CEO and president Craig Menear as chairman, effective Feb. 2. He will succeed Frank Blake, who will retire as chairman.

The Home Depot appointed Menear as CEO and president in November 2014. He is a 17-year veteran of the company, and is the first merchant to be named chairman and CEO since co-founder Bernie Marcus. Menear assumed his current position and was named to the company’s board of directors in February 2014. He is a 34-year retail veteran, and has been a key leader in the company's success.

Blake was initially named CEO and chairman of Home Depot in 2007 and remained chairman after Menear assumed the CEO role.

In addition to his role as chief merchant, Menear has overseen Home Depot’s supply chain efforts, its rapidly growing online and private brand businesses and the company's marketing and global sourcing.

Prior to joining Home Depot in 1997, Menear held various merchandising positions within the retail industry with companies such as Ikea, Builders Emporium, Grace Home Centers and Montgomery Ward, as well as operating an independent retail business.

"On behalf of the board of directors, I once again want to thank Frank for his outstanding leadership and dedication to our customers, associates and shareholders," said Greg Brenneman, lead director. "We're fortunate to have another great leader in Craig Menear and look forward to working closely with him moving forward."
