eBay is turning to the former chief executive of a major specialty retailer to help provide its board of directors some guidance.
Paul Pressler, who served as president and CEO of Gap Inc. from 2002-2007, has been named to eBay’s board and will serve on the Audit Committee as well as the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee.
“I am very pleased to welcome Paul to eBay’s board of directors,” said Devin Wenig, president and CEO of eBay. “As an independent director, Paul brings valuable experience managing major retail and consumer brands as well as significant leadership and financial expertise to eBay’s board.”
Pressler currently is a partner at the private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, LLC, and currently serves as chairman of David’s Bridal Inc. Other relevant industry experience includes a stint as president of The Disney Stores. He also formerly served on the board of online reservation service OpenTable Inc.
“It is a particularly exciting time to be joining eBay as the company embarks on its next chapter,” said Pressler. “eBay is an e-commerce pioneer and a leading global commerce player, and I look forward to working with eBay’s leadership team and my fellow directors as the company sets its sights on the future.”
eBay has been busy making changes since its split with PayPal in July, including the purchase of online consignment retailer Twice and testing an Amazon Prime-like service in Germany. The presence of Pressler, who is familiar with both brick-and-mortar and online retailing, on its board may signal the company is gearing up for still more interesting changes as it enters its third decade of existence.
