Dillard’s to pay $50,000 in age discrimination case
New York City -- Dillard’s will pay $50,000 and provide additional, unspecified relief to settle an age discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Triangle Business Journal reported.
The EEOC’s complaint alleges that Dillard’s fired 61-year-old Virginia Keene from her job as an area sales manager with the company’s Cary, N.C., store and replaced her with a 24-year-old employee with only four months of experience in the same position. Keene had more than four years of experience in the position and, at the time of her termination, was ranked second in sales among six area sales managers at the Cary store, according to the EEOC complaint.
