Borders names new non-book merchandising exec

Ann Arbor, Mich. Borders Group announced Thursday that Michael J. Oprins, 45, has been named VP merchandising for non-book products.

Oprins, an 18-year Borders veteran, will be responsible for leading buying teams in non-book categories including: music, DVD, bargain, digital, newsstand, calendars, games, trend gifts and candy. Prior to joining Borders, Oprins served in a variety of management positions with retailers such as Toys “R” Us and McDonald’s.
